Open a .tar.gz file

Double-click it in Finder and Archive Utility unpacks it into a folder. In Terminal, tar -xzf extracts it, and -C chooses where.

Without Terminal

  1. Double-click the .tar.gz file in Finder.
  2. Its contents appear in a folder beside it.

In one command

Extract into the current folder:

tar -xzf archive.tar.gz

Or into a folder of your choice:

mkdir -p out && tar -xzf archive.tar.gz -C out
Or just ask Titan
Unpack the .tar.gz I just downloaded. Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
