Save a list of a folder’s contents

In Finder, select everything (⌘A), copy (⌘C) and paste into TextEdit — you get the names. Terminal does it in one line: ls -1 writes one name per line into a file.

Without Terminal

  1. Open the folder in Finder and press ⌘A, then ⌘C.
  2. Open TextEdit, choose Format → Make Plain Text, and press ⌘V.

In one command

Write the folder’s contents, one per line, to a file on the Desktop:

ls -1 ~/Music > ~/Desktop/music-list.txt
Or just ask Titan
Make me a list of every file in my Projects folder. Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
