Count the files in a folder

Select the folder in Finder and press ⌘I — Get Info shows how many items it holds. In Terminal, find counts every file inside it, including files in subfolders.

Without Terminal

  1. Select the folder in Finder.
  2. Press ⌘I; the number of items is listed under General.

In one command

Count every file in a folder and its subfolders:

find ~/Pictures/Holiday -type f | wc -l
Or just ask Titan
How many photos are in my Holiday folder? Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
