Convert JPG images to PNG
Open the JPG in Preview, choose File → Export, and pick PNG. For a folder of them, sips converts every JPG to PNG in one line.
Without Terminal
- Open the JPG in Preview.
- File → Export…
- Choose PNG and Save.
In one command
Convert every JPG in the folder to PNG:
for f in *.jpg; do sips -s format png "$f" --out "${f%.*}.png"; done
PNG files of photos are often much larger than the JPG. Converting does not bring back detail JPG compression removed.
