Zip a folder with a password

Finder’s Compress has no password option, but the built-in zip command does: zip -er archive.zip folder asks for a password and encrypts the archive. Anyone opening it will be asked for that password.

How

Zip and encrypt a folder — it asks you for the password twice:

zip -er private.zip "My Folder"

Standard zip encryption is fine against casual snooping, not a determined attacker. For anything sensitive use an encrypted disk image (Disk Utility → New Image → encryption).

Or just ask Titan
Zip my tax folder with a password so I can email it to my accountant. Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
