Make a video smaller (720p)

Open the video in QuickTime Player and choose File → Export As → 720p (or 1080p) to save a lower-resolution copy. From Terminal, the built-in avconvert tool does the same with a preset such as Preset1280x720.

Without Terminal

  1. Open the video in QuickTime Player.
  2. File → Export As → 720p.
  3. Save the copy and send that one.

In one command

Save a 720p copy with the tool that ships with the system:

avconvert --source video.mov --preset Preset1280x720 --output video-720p.mov

Or keep 1080p but re-encode with the more efficient HEVC codec:

avconvert --source video.mov --preset PresetHEVC1920x1080 --output video-hevc.mov

Lowering the resolution shrinks big phone videos a lot; a video that is already small can come out no smaller. Check the size before deleting anything.

Or just ask Titan
Make a small copy of the video on my Desktop I can send on WhatsApp. Do it with Titan
