Show hidden files

In any Finder window press ⌘⇧. (Command-Shift-Period) — hidden files appear greyed out. Press it again to hide them. In Terminal, ls -a lists them in any folder.

Without Terminal

  1. Open the folder in Finder.
  2. Press ⌘⇧. (Command, Shift, full stop).
  3. Press it again to hide them.

In one command

List everything in a folder, hidden files included:

ls -a ~

Files are hidden because apps rely on them. Look, but do not move or delete them unless you know what they are.

Or just ask Titan
Show me the hidden files in my home folder and tell me what the big ones are. Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
