Generate a strong password

The Passwords app (and Safari) suggest a strong password when you sign up for something and remember it for you. For one to copy yourself, openssl rand makes a random one in Terminal.

Without Terminal

  1. When a site asks for a new password in Safari, accept the “Strong Password” it suggests.
  2. It is saved to the Passwords app automatically.

In one command

A random 24-character password:

openssl rand -base64 18

Put it straight into a password manager. A strong password written in a note is only as safe as the note.

Or just ask Titan
Make me a strong password for my new bank login. Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
