Find a file by its name

Press ⌘Space and type part of the name — Spotlight searches as you type. In Terminal, mdfind -name uses the same index and lists every match with its full path.

Without Terminal

  1. Press ⌘Space.
  2. Type any part of the file’s name.
  3. Press ⌘Return on a result to show it in Finder.

In one command

Every file with “invoice” in its name:

mdfind -name invoice 2>/dev/null

mdfind prints a couple of harmless “Loading keywords” lines; the 2>/dev/null hides them.

Or just ask Titan
Find the invoice from Acme — I think it’s a PDF somewhere. Do it with Titan

Titan is an AI that lives on your computer: tell it what you need and it does it while you watch — you press Return, nothing runs by itself. What is Titan?

Titan isn’t on this computer yet. Get Titan, then press the button again — the task will be waiting, typed in.
