Clean up old files in Downloads

Sort Downloads by Date Added in Finder and move old files to the Trash. To see everything older than a month first, find lists it in one line — review the list, then delete.

Without Terminal

  1. Open Downloads in Finder and switch to List view.
  2. Sort by Date Added.
  3. Select the old files and press ⌘⌫ to move them to the Trash.

In one command

List files in Downloads untouched for 30 days:

find ~/Downloads -maxdepth 1 -type f -mtime +30

When the list looks right, move them to the Trash (recoverable):

find ~/Downloads -maxdepth 1 -type f -mtime +30 -exec mv {} ~/.Trash/ \;

Moving to the Trash can be undone until you empty it. Never use rm for this.

Or just ask Titan
