Check your laptop battery health

System Settings → Battery → Battery Health shows the maximum capacity. The cycle count is in System Information, or one Terminal line prints capacity, cycle count and condition together.

Without Terminal

  1. Open System Settings → Battery.
  2. Click the ⓘ next to Battery Health to see maximum capacity.

In one command

Capacity, cycle count and condition in one go:

system_profiler SPPowerDataType | grep -E 'Cycle Count|Condition|Maximum Capacity'

Above 80% maximum capacity is healthy for most laptops; “Service Recommended” means it is time for a new battery.
