We watched every Show HN for 30 days. 65% got zero comments.

Every "Show HN" posted between June 13 and July 13, 2026 — all 3,767 of them, pulled from Hacker News' public API. No sampling, no cherry-picking. Here is what launching actually looks like.

The launch is a lottery, not a demand test

Only 4.9% of launches got ten or more comments — an actual discussion. One in five never even earned a second upvote. The maker of each of those 3,767 products spent weeks or months building, wrote the post, hit submit, and — for two out of three of them — heard nothing at all. Silence.

The natural conclusion is brutal and wrong: "nobody wants what I built."

A quiet launch measures one room, on one day, against ~125 competing posts. It says nothing about whether your buyers exist.

They do exist — they were just somewhere else that day. They were in a subreddit describing your product's exact job to strangers. They were in a GitHub issue speccing the tool you already built. They were replying to someone else's launch with "I'd pay for this if it did X" — where X is your feature list.

Proof: we went and found them

We took two products that launched into silence on Show HN this week and scanned the rooms where their buyers actually talk. Every quote links to its source.

Exhibit A · launched Jul 13, 2 points

TokenDrift

Finds hardcoded colors hiding in your CSS. We found 9 real asks for exactly this — including a literal "if you can find a solution for that, please share it."

Exhibit B · launched Jul 13, 2 points

MinuteFile

Local, private meeting transcripts. We found 10 real asks — HIPAA users, NDA consultants, a founder who uninstalled Granola over cloud transcripts.

Exhibit C · launched Jul 13, 2 points

Mock Chats

Viral chat-story videos. Its buyers aren't on HN at all — they're in YouTube tutorial comments ("bro we need one for free") and the incumbent's churn reviews.

Exhibit D · launched Jul 13, 1 point

Narada

A browser built for agents. 10 asks found — including the incumbent's own closed GitHub issues and a Redditor asking for it by description.

What to do with a silent launch

Don't relaunch louder. Find the rooms where the asking already happens, show up with the thing they asked for, and answer the person by name. That converts at a rate no launch can match — because you're not interrupting anyone. You're replying.

That's what Titan's Demand Radar does: it scans Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub and the open web for people describing your product's job, verifies every quote against its source, and hands you the reply-ready list.

Method. Data: every story tagged show_hn on the Hacker News Algolia API, created June 13 – July 13, 2026 (n=3,767, paginated by timestamp, deduplicated by story id). "Zero comments" = num_comments 0 at pull time (July 13). Front page ≈ stories reaching ≥100 points. Reproduce it yourself: hn.algolia.com/api/v1/search_by_date?tags=show_hn. Numbers will drift slightly as late comments arrive; the shape doesn't.
